Engage 08

ENGAGE 08 proved to be an encouraging and informative seminar on Christian Involvement in Local Government.
Held at the Waterfront Church on 7th June 2007, the event commenced with an enthusiastic worship session led by James and the team.

Elfed Godding
of EA Wales then gave a clear biblical keynote message entitled “The Bible and Politics”.

Dai Lloyd AM
, spoke eloquently on ‘why he got involved’ in politics and referred to his early days as a doctor, dealing with the health effects of poor social conditions on a Swansea housing estate.

John Bushell talked about ‘how to get involved’, recalling his experiences in local and national elections. He spoke movingly of practical help for the homeless and the hungry.

Councillor Mike Day explained the challenges to Christians working in public service and encouraged those present to consider an appropriate response to local issues.

Mick Walford of Swansea City Prayer enthused on the importance of prayer support for our leaders and to turn our city to Christ.

A ‘Question Time’ open forum, involving the speakers, enabled those attending to interrogate the panel on a number of issues.

Kevin Johns chaired the whole event in his own inimitable style.

More than 50 people attended and the general feedback on the night and subsequently was that it had been a worthwhile exercise.

A follow up is planned early next year with a focus on the May 2008 County Council elections.

Please pray and support our local members and officers on a regular basis and believe for more Christians to be ENGAGED.
